St. John Paul II Catholic Academy students believe every person should have the same opportunities to succeed, and today they proved it.
This morning, 25 SJPIICA middle-schoolers presented a $5,000 check to enthusiastic participants of Newton Athletes Unlimited, a non-profit offering recreational and social programs to individuals with disabilities.
The gift was made possible through the Highland Street Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Initiative, which allows students to select a community-based organization to be awarded a $5,000 grant.
After research and lively debate, teacher Sara Richard's sixth grade class voted unanimously that Athletes Unlimited deserved the donation.
"Everybody should be able to do what they like to do, and everybody should be able to play sports they like to play," said 7th grader, Nia Brown. "It's important to show people you care about them," she added.
Thank you for caring about Catholic Education!
